After thirteen years as a middle school teacher, Rebecca Battistoni realized she was ready for a change. Previously teaching in Virginia and Georgia, Rebecca moved to Bolivia to begin an international teaching career. During Rebecca’s third year at Santa Cruz Cooperative School, the school librarian announced that she was not returning the next year; that was the motivation for Rebecca to change careers from the classroom to the library. During her fourth year at SCCS, Rebecca began her coursework at Indiana State University in the CIMT program while also interning with the school’s librarian to assist with the transition from teacher to librarian.
Now in her fourth year as the SCCS librarian, Rebecca has continued to work towards her library certification, which will be completed in May 2013. The SCCS library programs have grown to include several annual school wide activities, such as the Dr. Seuss birthday celebration and the annual poetry contest. In October 2012, the library hosted an American author for the first time during Reading Incentive Month. Beginning in August 2013, Rebecca will begin her new job as librarian at the Anglo-American School of Sofia, Bulgaria.
