3.1. Connection with the Library Community
3.2 Instructional Partner
3.3 Educational Leader
The connections I have made with other AASSA (Association of American Schools of South America) librarians have been invaluable - we share information, resources, ideas and solutions to problems that arise in our international school settings. Last year we collaborated to bring American author David Schwartz to South America. With two other schools, SCCS was able to share the cost of his international flight, allowing us to host him in at our school. Without the combined resources of all three schools, his visit would not have been possible for us due to the expense.
I have also turned to the AASSA librarians for data to complete a SACS (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools) comparison report. This report, used during the October 2012 SCCS reaccreditation process, showed a "status of the library" comparison. Finally, I am currently collecting data from the AASSA librarians regarding magazine subscriptions. My director asked what other options were available, as it is getting more and more difficult to import magazines to Bolivia due to rising taxes and regulations. I posted the question to the group and have received feedback regarding digital subscriptions. I will submit my findings once I compile all of the responses.
Examples of my experiences as an instructional partner are the workshops I have presented to the staff on integrating Web 2.0 tools into their instruction; being a part of a Professional Learning Community focusing on the Daily 5 reading program; and assisting teachers within their content areas. I provide research pathfinders for the school's Character Education program and mentor teachers new to the school and/or profession.
