Philosophy of Librarianship
Being a 21st Century librarian is at the heart of my librarianship philosophy. The core beliefs I embrace in my daily library life, which integrate 21st Century skills, include:
- Creating a welcoming and accessible environment that serves as the hub of the school;
- Collaborating with the learning community to determine informational needs, co-teaching whenever possible and developing units together;
- Serving as an instructional leader to provide assistance, professional development and training;
- Offering meaningful learning opportunities to access, evaluate, and use information from a variety of resources, including emerging technologies;
- Planning with teachers to design authentic learning activities and assessments that are integral to the curriculum;
- Creating awareness of materials and services as well as offering suggestions for how to integrate these into lessons;
- Serving as a role model in the ethical use of information and teaching/encouraging others to follow the same guidelines; and
- Acting as the program administrator who is responsible for planning and directing the library activities, budget, policies, instructional area/space, and program direction.
