CBA Field Experience Journal
La Biblioteca Publica "Dr. Percy Boland Rodriquez" is a new public / private endeavor in downtown Santa Cruz, Bolivia. The library is part of the Centro Cultural Boliviano Americano (CBA) language institute, which is celebrating its 55th year in 2013. The CBA works closely with the American Embassy and is a part of the Association of Binational Centers of Latin America (ABLA) network, utilizing online databases from the US State Department and the eLibraryUSA.com sites.
The CBA, as a bi-national language center, acts as an information resource center catering to Bolivians who want to learn English and increase their knowledge of the United States. The CBA also offers enrichment classes in sports, dance, and guitar. The biblioteca publica is now offering memberships to the public which allows books to circulate off site. There are three main areas of the library - the computer room with 20 touch screen Dell computers; the children's/teens book area, and a reading/lecture area. The collection has over 4,300 books on the shelves, with additional books in storage. In addition, there are over 100 DVD's and CD's for client use. The library is staffed full time with a librarian, technology coordinator, and receptionist/data clerk. Mrs. Sonia Molina, the librarian, is the Field Supervisor. Sixty hours of the practicum was spent volunteering at the CBA. Prior to this experience, Mrs. Battistoni had no relationship with the CBA.

SCCS Field Experience Journal
Santa Cruz Cooperative School is a private, American overseas day school offering English instruction by licensed, experienced English-speaking teachers to students from Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade. School instruction is entirely in English, with daily Spanish classes beginning in third grade. SCCS is the only college preparatory school in Santa Cruz, Bolivia accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and the Bolivian Ministry of Education. These accreditations lead to both American and Bolivian high school diplomas.
Santa Cruz is a growing city of almost three million people, located in the Eastern lowlands of the country. Over 650 students attend SCCS, which follows an American academic calendar. Approximately 77% of the students are Bolivian nationals, with the remaining 23% of the students from other countries in South America, Asia, or from the United States .
The SCCS Library Media Center has a growing collection of approximately 18,000 items, including books, audio books, DVD’s, CD’s and a small number of eBooks. Based on the size of the collection and the school population, there is an average of 30 items per student. The collection is managed using Follett Destiny’s circulation system. New items are ordered each year using Titlewave, with an annual budget of $18,000 USD. The library space encompasses 12 networked computers inside the library and an additional 28 networked computers in an adjacent laboratory. The Library Media Center is staffed full time by a librarian, library assistant, with support from a technology director and three technology assistants. Mrs. Susan Zapata, Elementary Principal, is the SCCS Field Supervisor. Sixty hours of the practicum was spent working at SCCS. This is the library in which Mrs. Battistoni has been employed for the past four years.
